The Game I am Creating

So, as a teenager, I always wanted to develop a game. It would be a lie of me to say that Computer Games didn't have a influential part of my decision in getting into Software Engineering. I never got into the Game Dev Industry (I love all aspects of software engineering and most fields!), but besides from very simple things, I never really tried to make anything of substance in independence... Until now. Truth be told, this blogging is more for myself to track this games progress and evolution as a way to ensure I remain interested to persevere and ensure I work on this to knock off one of my goals in life!

Anyway.. onto the game!

The game I am working to create is a game called Oathfell. In truth, my inspiration of this are games like

  • Minecraft
  • Elder Scrolls
  • 7 Days to Die
  • Dead Island
  • and more.

My first thinking was another zombie game... But lets be honest. Although still great. Zombies are well over done...

So conceptually speaking I am going for a procedurally infinite world. Not just landscape-wise, but depth as well! (Why not?), but have a fantasy spin on it.

I also want this game to be a modders paradise, so from the foundations, I am working to ensure every aspect of it is configurable and extensible. If this game is to be successful, I would love the game to evolve with its community.

It means I will need to provide supporting tools for making modding possible as well. But so long as the foundations are there, that can come later.. But that being said. If the assets are going to be fully configurable and expandable, it makes sense for me to make that tooling with the game to allow for its expansion and then use it in anger to ensure its useable for anyone keen to jump in.

There are many many many more things I would like to add, but as a absolute base, that's it. I will leave it there, but there is of course a lot more! But will leave that for the blogs ahead.
